SBN’s June Seminar focused on the Saltford Community Post Office and Library.

Saltford faced the closure of not only its Library, but also its Post Office – and both provide cherished social contact as well as services.   It was a coincidence that proved ultimately to be a happy one – but only thanks to the hard work of volunteers and the generosity of village residents.   David Halton, formerly a University Vice Chancellor, shared the twists and turns of this complex story with us at our June business event.

Any new business needs a robust plan, but the Committee also had to navigate tortuous requirements set by the Post Office, and by B&NES for the Library.  Thanks to the 60 friendly volunteers, you don’t think about that when you visit – and we hope you do, because they depend on all of us for survival.  Several months in, they’re able to balance the books and look to the future.

The Post Office is eager to provide helpful services to any local business and invite business people to talk to them about their needs.  While Corston PO receives Crown support, Saltford PO doesn’t, so it’s up to all of us to protect its future.  Talk to Trish, our Postmistress, when you pop in, (or call??)
